Ensure accuracy, completeness, and safe keeping of patient medical records at PCHD.
Apply appropriate medical codes to assist in the preparation of a clean and accurate claim for payment.
Duties:
Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy Review the previous day's batch of patient encounter for evaluation and coding Ensure that all codes are current and active Additional Duties as assigned:
Fulfill internal and external requests for release of medical information.
Support the Revenue cycle teams with efforts by assisting with pre-authorization codes, chargemaster updates, insurance, credentialing request, price transparency, and training.
Consolidate and reconcile monthly department statistics.
Perform data extractions for internal and external reporting.
Collect and report daily census information.
Manage peer review program and present at medical staff.
Track and report provider's incomplete charts.
HIPAA training and education for staff members at PCHD.
All other duties as assigned by department manager.
Working Conditions:
Stands, sits, bends, lifts, and walks throughout the facility.
Frequently sitting and typing.
Occasionally pushing and pulling movements.
May be subject to frequent interruptions.
Communicates with Providers, nursing staff, and other department employees.
May encounter angry or hostile patients and family.
Qualifications Education, Training and
Experience:
Associate's Degree in Medical coding or successful completion of a certification program Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy Commitment to a high level of customer service Strong mathematical skills Familiarity with ICD-10 codes and procedures Solid oral and written communication skills Able to work independently Job Type:
